Darkness doesn’t understand righteousness

As we are early on in our study of the book of John, we find ourselves looking at John 1:3-5,

All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.  In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.  And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. (NKJV)

Of course this is again talking about Jesus and His preincarnate work. It shows that Jesus was in fact creator (Genesis talks about God being creator, so once again, it is a proof of Jesus being God). But that is not the aspect I would like to look at today. What I want to look at, is the fact that the “Light of the world came into darkness” and that darkness was confounded by Him. That the darkness tries to extinguish the light of Jesus but that it failed miserably. The New Living Translation say verse 5 this way,

The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.

You see, no matter how hard mankind tries to extinguish Jesus and His purpose for coming, mankind will always fail. No matter what Satan throws at believers in Christ, we can rest assured that Jesus’ light will shine brightly in us and that He has come to dwell with us and in us.

We live in a world that allows unrighteousness to prosper, that allows good to be called evil and evil to be called good. But from the beginning of time, God’s righteousness has not changed. What He declared evil is still evil and what He declared righteous is still righteous. Darkness doesn’t understand Jesus, because darkness tries to make Jesus into something He is not.

Thought for the day:

“God changes us to suit His purposes, we do not change God to suit our purposes”
