Walking in mud puddles

We are taking a detour today from the book of John to talk about a very serious topic. ‘What is the topic?’ you ask, well it is why don’t adults walk in mud puddles. This morning as my wife and I dropped our youngest daughter off at school, there was a little girl (I guess probably 4 or younger) who was having the time of her life just playing in the mud puddles.

There she was with her little rubber boots on walking freely in the water. No care in the world, just enjoying the moment. Now, I know this isn’t always practical for adults just to throw all their cares away and live in the moment, but I think every now and then we need to live like children. To run in the figurative puddles, to forget your problems (even your bills for a moment) and just have some carefree times.

We get the idea that Adults need to be serious all the time, but I think we can learn alot from children. Even Jesus says that the Kingdom of Heaven is like little children in Luke 18:16

Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.

So the question remains, what are children like? They are joyful, trusting, carefree and willing to give love and be loved. So be like a child, even if only for today, and go play in a puddle.
