Hey Buddy… do you have a light?

I don’t smoke but I can not count how many times I have been asked this question while walking down the street. People constantly looking for a light for their cigarettes. I personally do not understand the attraction for smoking but ‘to each their own’. This common question brings up an undeniable truth, people every where are searching for a light. And while I don’t have the light they are looking for, I do have the light they need. Jesus said it best in John 8:12 when He says,

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

A deep and profound comment made by Jesus. Here He was stating that the light that humanity lost was available to be rekindled in relationship with Him, that even though we walk through the darkness of the world (Psalms 23 describes it as the Shadow of the valley of death), we have Him to be our light, our Hope our present, past and future.

So next time someone asks you if you have a light, maybe your response can be to point them to the light they really need. Because in Him is all the Hope a soul could ever desire.
